Dolce Si Sicilian Bakery & Cafe opened their doors in November of 2015 and could not have picked a better location. Located in Ruston, Washington on what many call the Tacoma, Waterfront, Dolce Si is the first business you come across as you enter Point Ruston.
My wife and I had been looking to visit this bakery for some time now. We visited the bakery several times in April and May of 2016. On our first outing to Dolce Si we wanted to go out for dessert and we were having trouble thinking of a good place to just have dessert but then we remembered the Dolce Si Bakery.
Before I get into how everything tasted let me tell you a few other things that I noticed.
What kind of bakery is this?
When I asked the young lady that was assisting us with our order about the bakery she said that the owner was from Sicily and everything created in her bakery was her recipe. Even though the restaurant looks professionally designed this was not a franchise, this is a mom and pop establishment which are my favorite places to patron. Dolce Si is a Sicilian Bakery and is constantly making new items that my family and I can’t wait to taste.
What type of food do they have?
Based on what we saw, and with some help from the Dolce Si website they have cakes, tart pies, a variety of delicious pastries and cookies, pies and gelato ice cream. They probably have even more stuff but most of the stuff was sold out before we arrived both nights. Basically I learned that I need to get my dessert a little earlier than 8:30 p.m. The earlier you go to the bakery the better chance you will have to see everything they have to offer.
Coffee and Fancy Coffee Drinks
I ordered an Americano and my wife ordered a 16 oz sugar free vanilla latte with 2% milk. Truthfully the Americano I was served was probably the best I have ever tasted. My wife was happy with her drink as well.
One thing I noticed in some reviews of the restaurant is that they were not happy with the service at the bakery. I have been there at least six times and each time the bakery was relatively busy. On both visits there was nothing but great customer service and attentiveness. As soon as I stepped up to the counter to see what treats were available there was an employee asking how I can be helped.
Just the other day I spoke with one of the owners who I believe is named Steve. Steve casually asked how everything was as he was sweeping the lobby. My wife and I told him we thought everything was great and how we visit frequently. My wife and I continued to ask a variety of questions to Steve and during our conversation there was a clear sense that he and his wife were on a mission to please their customers and wanted everyone to have a good experience when they came to their bakery.
Back to the food
The food on our first trip and every trip afterwards has been great. My wife and I have found a few favorites that we order but we also try to order things that we haven’t tried just to see if we like it or not.
As I noted earlier I had a tart pie and a lemon cookie on my first visit. The tart was so large I didn’t get to the lemon cookie until later that night. Both tasted great and were fresh, you just knew good ingredients were being used. The cookie was a lemon iced cookie. I recommend if you don’t eat the cookie right away that you refrigerate it so the lemon frosting doesn’t melt until you are ready to eat it.
We have continued to return to Dolce Si for gelato, various tarts and other bakery items that I can’t even remember the name of because they always seem to be adding new items every time we visit. We even visited one morning for breakfast as they have breakfast options as well.
While they have cakes, Sicilian cannolis, pies and a variety of pastries you will need to get there at a decent hour to see the full selection that they have. They sell out of things quickly because they are quite popular. Our experience is the later you get there the less selection of goodies you will have to pick from.
I hope the pictures and video (coming soon) give you an idea of what to expect.
