Our trip to the Tacoma Comedy Club has been a long time coming. My wife and I have been talking about going to a comedy club in Tacoma since we moved to Tacoma and we finally did it on Saturday, September 14, 2013.
On this day they had two show times on the day we were going. The first show started at 8:00 p.m. and the second show started at 10:30 p.m. The two comedy acts the night we went were Alex Falcone and Alex Reymundo.
We chose to see the 10:30 p.m. show and ordered our tickets through their website. The main reason we decide on the late show was because I happen to be working late on this day and we were worried we wouldn’t make it to the 8:00 p.m. show. If I hadn’t been working we would have tried to make it to an earlier show.
Since the show was later we stopped by Dorky’s Bar Arcade. My wife and I had a beer and played some video games to kill some time before the show started.
We walked from Dorky’s to the Tacoma Comedy Club which was only a few blocks away. It was all up hill and I realized it would have been better to park next to the club as there was plenty of parking in the area.
We got to the club around 9:40 p.m. and stood outside. Many of the patrons from the 8:30 p.m. show were trickling out of the club. We eventually entered the club and waited in a long line. As soon as it was 10:00 p.m. they started letting people into the club. We handed our prepaid tickets (I printed them out at home) to the woman in charge of admission and then we were greeted by our waiter who asked if front row seats would be ok. “That would be great”, I exclaimed. The waiter briefed us on how he would take all the orders we had (food or drink). He pointed us to the direction of the restrooms and seated us right next to the stage. He then took our drink order and vanished out of view.
We received our drinks within appropriate amount of time, right before the first comedian and again half way through the set of the second comedian (the main act).
The comedians were great and they had us laughing pretty good throughout the night. Our drink bill total was about $25.00 for four drinks which was pretty reasonable.
When it was all said and done we only spent $55.00 ($15.00 for each ticket) for about 2 hours of entertainment and drinks. This didn’t include tipping the waiter but there was so much value in the entertainment it was easy to justify the expense (which was very reasonable).
The Tacoma Comedy Club is a very nice and clean. They took special care and thought when designing the layout of the club. In the very back of the club are circular booths and the bar. There are only a handful of booths which look as if they are not used very often and if they are I can see them using the booth for groups of 4 to 6 (just a guess). The rest of the seating consists of circular tables and chairs which seat groups of 4 comfortably (with just drinks). There really didn’t appear to be a bad seat in the house and it looked as if well over 100 people could fit comfortably in the club. I am sure it fits more but that is my estimate.
Food and Specials
The Tacoma Comedy Club has a decent menu that includes many appetizers, salads, burgers and baskets and desserts. Nearly all of the appetizers are under $10.00. Their salads range in price from $6.99 to $9.99. The Burger and Baskets range in price from $10.99 to 12.99. The desserts are $4.99. The menu is viewable on the Tacoma Comedy Club’s website (which is nice to see).
We didn’t eat because it was late. We plan on eating on our next visit to see how good the food is. I am sure we won’t be disappointed.
The prices for admission vary between $15.00 and free. The shows on Friday and Saturday are $15.00 unless otherwise listed. The ticket prices on Thursdays and Sundays are $10.00. And admission is free on open mic night.
Get there early – If you want a good front row seat then get there at least 30 to 40 minutes early. There really isn’t a bad seat in the house but the sooner you get there the better seats you will have.
Order 2 Drinks – My wife and I ordered one drink when we got there and it was served to us right before the show started. That was great but the drinks go quick and two drinks on the first order would have held me over longer. The waiter does come back for an additional order later in the night but there is a large amount of time in between orders.
Order You Tickets on Their Website – The great thing about getting your tickets online is that you don’t have to worry about them selling out of a show before you get to the club. All we had to do was show them the tickets we bought and printed out and we were on the way to our seats.
Parking – There is plenty of parking in the area of the Tacoma Comedy Club. Parking is free on the street and I think there is a pretty small fee for the parking garage next to the club.
Ages Allowed– The 8:00 p.m. show is for ages 18 and over. The 10:30 p.m. shows are for 21 and over.
This is an activity in Tacoma worth doing. You can go alone, with friends or with your special someone. It is a great date location whether you are married or just dating.
This is the type of activity I could do over and over again with my wife on date nights. They have a variety of specials and fun acts going every month.
Overall I think this is a great place in Tacoma to check out. Be sure to comment if this review of my experience was helpful. And don’t forget to share your experience in the comments as well.
